How To Get Your Articles Read – Promoting Your Website Products

You have your articles or blogs all ready to be read on your website but how do you actually get them read by the people you want to come and buy the products or service that you are promoting?

A lot of online marketers have surely asked themselves that question when first starting out.

In this article I will be outlining the steps and give you tips and advice you can take in four ways you can do this effectively and so make you money from your marketing efforts.  First Off…

Test Your Ideas And Find Your Angle:

Finding your angle is often a matter of narrowing your topic.  For example a topic like “Sports” is far too general, so narrow it to say, “Table Tennis” is better.  Often, reducing the article to a single dimension e.g., focus on a key person, place, or event – gives a saleable angle.

When your subject is popular, you must give a fresh approach.  One way is to take an idea like “Overcoming Failure” and give it a twist to something like “Failure Can Be Good for You.”  It needn’t be exotic to sell, something as mundane as “New and Improved” has worked by adding a new ingredient to the usual. 

Research Helps:

While many articles or blogs can be written entirely from your own knowledge, a little research can pay big dividends by seducing the reader.  Facts sell readers on an idea.  Readers look for articles or blogs with many specifics:  Don’t just write that “Last year millions of people suffered from such and such an infection.”  Tell how many millions – and why!  Write your article as a critical review with added comments to get your message across to the readers.

Research both the topic and the markets you’re aiming it at. A common reason for rejection is because of inadequate knowledge.

Shaping Your Raw Material: 

After you have the basics:

  • the idea
  • the slant/facts
  • the market

I shall stick to article writing in this section.  So now you’re ready to write your article.   A good article starts strong, and never lets up until the reader is sold.  Follow the two Newspaper dictums; The five W’s (who, what, where, when, why) which Inverted Pyramid Constructionexplains the story immediately, and “the inverted pyramid” which emphasizes putting the most interesting information first.  You’ll lose the reader’s interest if you save the best for last although it’s always best practice to have a good ‘Punchline’. 

4 Main Sections to an article: 

  1. The Headline
  2. The Lead Paragraph
  3. The Body Of Content
  4. The Call To Action 

Each has a specific purpose: the first two, tell the reader what the article is about, then why and what the benefits are, and finally why they should buy it or buy into the product or service.

The Headline – The aim of this is to hook the reader and make them want to continue reading.

Once you’ve aroused the reader’s attention, move directly to a summary of the article. 

The Lead Paragraph – This section should convince the reader that you know what you are writing about; it should outline the points you plan to cover or provide factual information about your topic – giving only enough to prove that your article is the real deal.  Here you can mention sources.  Also include here a working title for the article.  Don’t spend a lot of time trying to get a provocative headline, because titles are often changed by the writers as they think of better ones.

The Body Of Content – This is where you sell yourself as a writer and an authority of your subject now that you’ve sold him/her on the product or service.  Don’t be bashful; readers expect a bit of sell in the content.  There’s nothing wrong with saying, “I’m highly qualified to write this article because…” if a convincing reason follows.  Start your lead paragraph with your knowledge and experience of whatever it is you’re promoting.  

The Call To Action – This is a most important part of any marketer’s article. You have possibly sold the reader on the product or service but they could still be having doubts if it’s for them.  You have to tell them it is for them.  No ifs or buts.  They have to be told where to go and find this great product or service.  They have to be told why it’s the best decision they could ever make!

How To Write A Great Press Release

The word “Press Release” seems to scare most writers to death. On top of that not many marketers take the time to even think of writing their own Press Release. I  hope this brief explanation will help clear up some of the mysteries surrounding this simple form of marketing.

The first thing you have to remember is that a Press Release is a “news” item. It needs to “inform” people, NOT sell them something. For example, you are reading this article because you want to learn something that will BENEFIT YOU. You aren’t reading it just so you can buy something else. If money is the deriving force in your business – you won’t go too far. Your main goal should be in pleasing your potential customers, providing them with a high-quality product or service and more than their money’s worth.

The trick is to do all this while still making money. People don’t care what mountains you had to climb, what seas you had to cross or what tribe of people you had to learn the ways of just to find a secret formula. Instead – they want to know WHAT the secret formula is.

Your website/articles/blogs/advertising are the methods you might be using to sell your product or service. A Press Release informs others about your product. Instead of your main objective being to sell and have the customer send in an order immediately, a Press Release informs the customer exactly how your product or service will benefit their lives. This must be conveyed in the form of a “newsworthy” Press Release. It’s really just a new marketing angle of presenting your product to the public.

As you can see, this is a short but sweet Press Release – however, you should be able to see the “Newsworthiness” in it.  Its main focus is on the fact that most people get ripped-off when they start looking for their first work from home business opportunity. The solution to this problem is a new directory that is available for the first time in history. The sell is slowly led into because the reader will naturally want to get their hands on this one. It doesn’t ask for money it only tells the reader how to get a copy if they want one.

Here’s a great test for a real press release. Since your final sales pitch is included in the last paragraph – read the Press Release aloud. Would it still be worth reading without your sales pitch? If so, it’s probably a Press Release.

Press Releases come in many forms due to the product you are writing about. However, the basic rule of thumb still applies. If you’ve never wrote one before – it may be a little difficult. Don’t despair. Grab the latest daily newspaper and read some of their informational articles. Notice how each article is written and pattern yours after the same format. After you do a few of them – you’ll be able to “get the picture.”

Everybody wants to make more money.  In fact, most people would like to hit upon something that makes them fabulously rich!  And seemingly, one of the easiest roads to the fulfillment of these dreams of wealth is from the internet.

The only thing is, hardly anyone gives much real thought to the basic ingredient of selling online – the writing of profitable classified ads.  If your business is to succeed, then you must acquire the expertise of writing classified Ads that sell your product or services!

So what makes a classified Ad good or bad?  First of all, it must appeal to the reader, and as such, it must say exactly what you want it to say.  Secondly, it has to say what it says in the least possible number of words in order to keep your operating costs within your budget.  And thirdly, it has to produce the desired results whether inquiries or sales.

Grabbing the reader’s attention is your first objective.  You must assume the reader is “scanning” the page on which your Ad appears in the company of two or three hundred Classified Ads.  Therefore, there has to be something about your Ad that causes them to stop scanning and look at yours!  So, the first two or three words of your Ad are of the utmost importance and deserve your careful consideration.  Most surveys show that words or phrases that quickly involve the reader tend to be the best attention-grabbers.  Such words as:  FREE…  WIN…  MAKE BIG MONEY…

Whatever words you use as attention-grabbers, to start your Ads, you should bear in mind that they’ll be competing with similar attention-grabbers of the other Ads on the same page.  Therefore, in addition to your lead words, your Ad must quickly go on to promise or state further benefits to the reader.  In other words, your Ad might read something like this:  MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!  Very Easy.  We show you how!

In the language of professional copywriters, you’ve grabbed the attention of your prospect, and interested them with something that even they can do.

The next rule of good classified copywriting has to do with the arousal of the reader’s desire to get in on your offer.  In a great many instances, this rule is by-passed, and it appears, this is the real reason that an Ad doesn’t have the pulling power according to the expectations of the advertiser.

Think about it – you’ve got your reader’s attention; you’ve told them it’s easy; and you’re about to ask them to do something.  Unless you take the time to further “want your offer,” your Ad is going to only half turn them on.  They’ll compare your Ad with the others that have grabbed their attention and finally decide upon the one that interests them the most.

What is being said is that here is the place for you to insert that magic word “guaranteed” or some other such word or phrase.  So now, we’ve got an Ad that reads:  MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!  Very Easy.  Guaranteed!

Now the reader is turned on, and in their mind, they can’t lose.  You’re ready to ask for their money.  This is the “demand for action” part of your Ad.  This is the part where you want to use such words as:  Limited offer – Act now! Write today!  Only and/or just…

Putting it all together, then your Ad might read something like this:  MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!  Very Easy.  Guaranteed!  Limited offer.  Send $l to:

These are the ingredients of any good classified Ad – Attention – Interest – Desire – Action…  Without these four ingredients skillfully integrated into your Ad, chances are your Ad will just “lie there” and not do anything but cost you money.  What I’ve just shown you is a basic Classified Ad.  Although such an Ad could be placed in any leading publication and would pull a good response, it’s known as a “Blind Ad” and would pull inquiries and responses from a whole spectrum of people reading the publication or website in which it appeared.  In other words  from as many time-wasters as from bona-fide buyers.

So let’s try to give you an example of the kind of Classified Ad you might want to use, say to sell a product or service in an article such as this one…  Using all the rules of basic advertising copywriting, and stating exactly what our product is, our Ad reads like this:

MONEY-MAKER’S SECRETS!  How To Write Winning Classified  Ads.  Simple & Easy to learn – should double or triple your current income.  Rush $1 to BC Sales, 10 Main Anytown, TX 75001.

The point I’m making is that: 

  1. You’ve got to grab the reader’s attention…
  2. You’ve got to “interest them” with something that appeals to them… 
  3. You’ve got to “further stimulate” them with something (catch-phrase) that makes them “desire” the product or service. 
  4. Demand that they act immediately…

There’s no point in being tricky or clever.  Just adhere to the basics and your profits will increase accordingly.  One of the best ways of learning to write good Classified Ads is to study the classifieds – try to figure out exactly what they’re attempting to sell – and then practice rewriting them according to the rules I’ve just given you.  Whenever you sit down to write a classified, always write it all out – write down everything you want to say – and then go back over it, crossing out words, and refining your phraseology.

The final ingredient of your Classified Ad is of course, your name, address, email or website to which the reader is to respond – where they send their money or write or go to for further information.

Generally speaking, readers respond more often to Ads that include a name than to those showing just initials or an address only.  However, because advertising costs are based upon the number of words, or the amount of space your Ad uses, the use of some names in Classified Ads could become quite expensive.

If you were to ask your Ad respondents to write to or send their money to The Research Writers & Publishers Association, or to Book Business Mart, or even to Money Maker’s Opportunity Digest, your advertising costs would be prohibitive.  Thus you shorten your name to Researchers or Money-Makers.  The point here is to think relative to the placement costs of your Ad, and to shorten excessively long names.

The same holds true when listing your post office box number.  Shorten it to just plain Box 40.

The important thing is to know the rules of profitable Classified Ad writing, and to follow them.  Hold your costs in line.

Now you know the basics… the rest is up to you.

When you start an online newsletter you have the opportunity to collect opt-in email addresses to build your subscription base and establish creditability with your subscribers so that they may want to purchase products from you, a trusting source. 

The best part about an online newsletter is that it is free to start up.  With an online newsletter you can offer your subscribers juicy daily/weekly or monthly information and they will love it.  It will slowly build up their curiosity and they may purchase a monthly membership or products from you because they love receiving the information you supply. 

Now, if you send them junk, the complete opposite will occur, so having an online newsletter takes work, but you can always pay someone to do it for you.  So, with all this work put into it should you consider charging for subscriptions?  That depends on what you want to accomplish.  Do you want to attract visitors and entice them to your main product.  Or are you only offering an online newsletter with no products. 

How often do you send out autoresponders and how in depth and valuable is your newsletter? Is this information easily found free somewhere else on the Internet?

Free newsletters are much easier because you can get a lot of people to opt-in and you can sell them a subscription in the future.  Everyone loves free stuff.  Occasionally, at the end of the email you may want to offer special subscriber only promotions or notify your subscribers of new products or services.  You could even offer special subscriber only bonuses with a purchase.

By the way, if you send your subscribers what begins to look like sales letters, they will opt out quicker than you can say wait! Be careful because this is your potential customer base and it is like gold to you.
