Having your own business operating out of your home is an inexpensive, almost free, way to generate a monthly income and have relative freedom from the 9 to 5 grind. As you own boss, you set your own hours and break times and still make money. Take a looksee at some of my other articles on this site through this link:
And there are great articles on another site of mine here:
The growth of the Internet has led to an explosion of home based internet businesses using affiliate marketing as a way to make money. Home based business built on affiliate marketing means that you set up a website and redirect the traffic to an affiliate that pays you each time a customer makes a purchase by clicking through your website. This is an example of a free home based Internet business because it doesn’t cost anything to sign up with other businesses as one of their affiliates.
However, there is a lot more to just setting up a website to make money. Home based businesses operating on the Internet cannot just expect the sites to make money without some extra work. The cost of an Internet based business is not quite free, because unless you sign up with a company that will give you them for free you do have to pay for the domain name and the web hosting.
When you compare this to the cost of setting up a bricks and mortar business, then you might consider it almost a free home based Internet business.
In order to make money through affiliate marketing you do have to become knowledgeable about how it works. Choosing onine merchants that people want to buy from will help you make money. Home based business owners with small internet businesses can get the information they need about operating a free home based Internet business by reading all the available information on affiliate marketing. The main thing is to choose a merchant that sells products consumers want.
To make money, home based business owners need to search the Internet to find the online merchants that rank highly in the search engines. Study the websites that have links to affiliates and find out how you can take advantage of a free home based Internet business. Think about what is hot in the market right now and set about finding merchants that offer quality products like these. Once you do this and have your website up and running, you will be well on your way. You do have to keep working at least a few hours each day to make money. Home based business using the Internet also means you have to be constantly on the lookout for new products and ideas.

A Home Business That’s Both Realistic And Very Lucrative
The problem with most every home business is it’s either too expensive to set up, takes too long to begin showing a profit, or the “learning curve” is just too difficult or too time consuming for the average person.
Even worse, a lot of offers related to home business that you find in magazines, your mail, and on the Internet are outright rip-offs. That’s not to say they take your money and don’t deliver the product. They deliver the product all right; it’s the product that doesn’t deliver. Why? Because the home business “program” was designed to make money for the vendor, NOT the purchaser.
But there are ways to make money in a home business that are realistic, don’t cost an arm and a leg, and can be quickly learned with just a little time and effort. The business of Credit Repair is one such business.
Now the very name “Credit Repair” may sound intimidating to some, probably because there are high priced agencies and attorneys who practice it and charge thousands of dollars for their services. But that doesn’t mean they do anything the average person can’t do himself, given the proper knowledge. Nor does it mean credit repair can’t be done as a home business, rather than from an office with dozens of employees.
Before I continue, some explanation is in order. Let’s take the USA as an example. To start with, there are 3 major agencies in the United States who keep records of the credit histories of hundreds of thousands of Americans. These agencies are called “Credit Bureaus” and their names are Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. They’re private agencies, have no connection with the US (or any) government, and are a billion dollar a year industry.
Do you want to take out a mortgage? Your lender will be checking your credit history with one or more of the credit bureaus. And once you get your loan, they will be reporting your payment history to the agency as well. And based on the information in the credit bureaus’ records, you’ll be assigned a “credit score” that lenders look at to determine your credit worthiness.
The business of credit repair involves contacting the bureaus in an attempt to improve a client’s (or your own) credit score. The process really isn’t that difficult, and involves a few simple steps.
- Have the client get a copy of his credit report from each of the 3 bureaus. This can easily be done online at – http://www.annualcreditreport.com
- Write letters to each of the 3 bureaus and dispute negative information on the credit reports. By law, the bureaus then have 30 days to verify the disputed information with the original creditor, or they must delete it. They must then report their findings to the consumer, and also send a copy of the revised credit report.
- When the credit bureaus respond, examine the revised reports and continue to dispute additional negative items.
If you perform credit repair for pay, there are some legal matters you need to deal with to avoid running afoul of the law. For instance, some states require you to be bonded or licensed. You’re also required to inform clients of their legal rights, and to give them 3 days to rescind their decision should they decide to accept your services.
But these steps aren’t anything you can’t do as a home business entrepreneur. They’re intended to protect the consumer, and in general, are good practices that any ethical business person should be following anyway.
So if it’s that simple, why do agencies charge thousands of dollars for their services? Very simply, because they can get away with it! Most people just aren’t aware of how uncomplicated the process is, or would ever believe they can do it themselves.
Now if you’re looking to start a home business that will make you rich overnight without any effort, then credit repair isn’t for you. But then, neither is anything else. You’d do better to embrace more realistic expectation, or you’ll be forever wasting your money on the home business “programs” I mentioned earlier.
But if you’re willing to invest some time and effort in a realistic home business, you might want to take a closer look at credit repair. Compared to just about every other home business it has all the advantages. It’s one of the easiest to learn, least expensive and quickest to start up, there’s a huge demand (nearly 1 of every 3 Americans have some credit problems), and you can make some very, very good money. You can also choose to do it part time or full time. The choice is entirely yours.
To get started, you’ll need to do two things.
- Get a good book on the process of credit repair and spend a little time familiarizing yourself with the process.
- Do some research into the laws pertaining to credit reporting and credit repair companies, specifically, the “Fair Credit Reporting Act” and the “Credit Repair Organizations Act.”
Both can be researched online.
Finally, once you’ve launched your home business and begun repairing people’s credit, you’ll have the good feeling of knowing you’re helping people in need. And you can charge them way less than the big agencies and STILL make an extraordinarily good living. That’s a win-win situation for everyone … EXCEPT the credit bureaus and overpriced repair agencies.
Gives you a good feeling, doesn’t it?

A Home Based Business Modelled After Google
Probably the most exciting company to not only survive, but come out strong out of the dot-com crash of the late 90’s is Google Inc (http://www.google.com). Having started out small as a company operated in the garage of a friend and employing a staff of three, Google’s meteoric rise to a top name on the Internet is not really that perplexing when we analyze the core strengths and policies of this company.
I am a super-fan of Google. I am also a fan of studying success so that I can learn from it. Here are a few key points that you, as a home based business entrepreneur, can learn from Google:
1) Capital Isn’t Everything
It may be hard for the newcomer to the home based business scene to swallow this fact. After all, more capital investment would mean more money to spend on advertising and building a home business. It is tempting to think how your business would be right now if you had, say $100,000 to start with, instead of the meager amount you scrambled to get from selling things around your home.
But here’s one thing more important than capital – ingenuity. Ingenuity involves making the best of the resources available to you, making every advertising dollar count, and treating every customer or prospect invaluable to your business.
Capital in the wrong hands, in the hands of an inexperienced entrepreneur or marketer, is just a waste of money. Ingenuity, on the other hand, can turn a $1000 capital into a thriving business. And yes, when you get the ingenuity part right, then whatever extra capital you get would be worth so much more.
2) Differentiate and Win – Think Outside the Box
Innovation, ability to think outside the box and a willingness to test ideas and make mistakes is the trademark of any truly successful company, especially in Google’s case. Recently when Google’s Gmail (http://www.gmail.com) was launched, many ISPs and email providers were scrambling to offer more space to their free email accounts, simply because Google offered 1G of space. What they didn’t get, however, was that Gmail was more that just about space.
So how did Google differentiate? They turned what would otherwise been just another email service into something much more. It is, as any user would be able to testify, the best way to store, organize and find information contained in emails. Keeping track of business responses and follow-ups is a breeze with Gmail. Try it yourself if you cannot believe that statement.
Many home based business entrepreneurs, especially the ones involved in network marketing, shiver at the word “saturated”. In a network marketing environment it may dawn upon every person, at one point or another, that there are many others with products and opportunities that are similar to theirs, and the products that they are expected to sell may be in the highly competitive industries. I felt that way once too, but here’s the real question – what can you offer?
Not too long ago a friend of mine, after completing a course on cosmetics, offered free facials and beauty consulting to promote cosmetic products sold by her network marketing company. By doing things most people were not doing at that time, she simple blew the competition away.
3) Give Your Customers Exactly What They Want
Marketers wanted a quick, results based, and dynamic advertising tool, and they got Adwords. Website owners wanted more advertising revenue, but did not want the hassle of maintaining it over the hundreds of pages that they have, and they got Adsense.
Its a pretty simple strategy – understand what your customers want and give it to them!
My ex-sponsor in my old network marketing company used to say that in order for me to move their nutritional supplements, I had to teach people that supplements can prevent many hazardous illnesses. Prevention is better than cure. But here’s what I learned in a few years – the majority of people are looking for cures, not prevention. Most of the people I met in Malaysia are looking for a cure to sleeping disorders, a cure for fatigue, a cure for arthritis, and so on.
Sure, it may be a noble deed to educate people about prevention, but the world does not always work that way. The majority of people look for a home based business only when they get retrenched, when they run out of savings, or when they retire. So why not make your recruitment efforts match this need? Why not develop your niche market based on this category of people?
Instead of teaching them about residual income and the power of duplication which they are not interested in, wouldn’t your message be more effective if you taught them how to earn a comfortable retirement income, or how to replace their current income instead?
The point is this – as a home based entrepreneur you must understand your target market’s need, and serve them well. You should focus on being the best in providing the cure, not the best in preaching about the prevention. Focus on customer needs, and they will flock to you.
4) Are You Having Fun?
Everything about Google spells fun. But don’t get me wrong. They are probably the most innovative company at the moment.
The fact that they can present their complicated technology in such a simple way to end-users is an act that every company can envy. Have you ever heard anyone complain about Google search being too complicated to use? Yet as an Internet marketer I can go crazy trying to understand the complexity behind the simple white page and squiggly logo.
Leave the complexity of a home based or network marketing business behind the scenes. Teach people how to have fun, while achieving goals and building their business. Show them that you are having fun yourself, and they will buy, they will join, or at least tell someone else about you, and your exciting business.
When you’re having fun, it will not seem like work at all. Everyone could use a little fun in their lives, don’t you think?
5) Focus on Your Core Competency
Yes, this is another phrase that is thrown around in the business world, but how many entrepreneurs actually practice it? As a home based entrepreneur, you may find the need to explore other sources of income. There’s nothing wrong in that, but here’s the catch – don’t go where the money is, especially if it’s not related to what you’re doing.
Many people tend to find other sources of income that is totally unrelated to their main home business. As a result of that, they become an expert in nothing, and they become the best in nothing. If you make custom furniture at home, why take a job at a fast food chain to make ends meet, when you can explore other ways to make money out of your core competency? Having woodworking workshops, writing a ‘how to’ book on woodworking, or even a sales job at a furniture outlet can make good sources of additional revenue, while building your name and expertise on your core competency itself.
Starting out as a search engine, Google pretty much maintained their core competency until today. When they explore other sources of revenue or develop new products, you can be pretty sure it’s related to search technology. And the undisputed result of that is that there is simply no other better alternative when it comes to search and information retrieval.
Therefore, we have much to learn from the success story of Google. Just as much as the age old story of entrepreneurs who drop out of school, and go on to develop multi-million dollar businesses armed with nothing more than guts and ingenuity, Google’s success story is inspirational to say the least.
A tale of humble beginnings with extraordinary endings. Maybe that will someday be the story of your life, and your home based business…
Maybe you have already started a home business but are you doing everything yourself. I ask this because through my own experience and other work from home enthusiasts I’m in touch with a little help can go a long way to enjoying success that much sooner and there’s less of a conflict of interests within the family home.
A Home Business Should Be A Family Affair
I’ve heard tales, and for a short while lived them back in the days when I was married, about how a spouse will eagerly start a home based business of one sort or another and before they can even get their feet wet in the business – – BAM the other spouse starts belittling and generally putting a damper on the once enthusiastic entrepreneur’s ambitions.
Luckily for me, my spouse saw that I don’t just talk about something that I intend to do, I do it – – so she changed her tune; especially when she saw I was actually doing quite well at it and making way more money than I ever did from my 9 to 5.
Anyway, it’s been over 10 years since all that mess transpired, and I’ve seen and heard just about every story imaginable on the subject of home business start-ups/failures. I’ve also learned that most spouses, family members and ‘friends’ react in such damaging ways out of either fear or ignorance. I suppose some are just plain mean, but well, that’s another issue we’ll leave for Oprah or Jerry Springer
For lucky business builders who have encouraging families, the work at home life is good, very good. And if you actually pay a family member to assist you, their salary is tax deductible too, so there’s another plus in starting a business.
Creating a better future for the family is probably the most recurring ‘Why’ that I hear from new business owners. With such a strong reason driving the decision to work from home, then why shouldn’t the entire family be involved? It’s for them after all.
Find a way that even the littlest member can take part in the family business. Remember too that helping with chores, running errands, baby-sitting for younger siblings, taking turns with dinner etc. are all just as important as being able to do home office work, if not ‘more’ important in the long run.
If you’re currently suffering with a spouse or partner who just doesn’t ‘get’ what you’re doing – please don’t give up. Keep on building and trying and help them ‘get’ it through concrete results. Usually, with some home businesses, positive results that a ‘non-biz’ type can wrap their minds around, does take time. Unfortunately cash talks, however, and they may not take you seriously until you can show them your first check; and with persistence and consistency – – You will.
